AI Fashion Shoots: how they actually work

An AI photo shoot produces hyperrealistic fashion imagery with no physical set, real models or location. This guide explains what you need to start, how production runs, how long it takes and what you can do with the images. Everything here describes the process we use at MYO.

What an AI photo shoot is

An AI photo shoot generates images of garments and accessories with generative AI, starting from the real product. There is no studio to rent, no crew to coordinate, no location to scout: production happens entirely in digital.

The difference from an automatic generator is who drives the process. A self-service tool returns whatever the model produces on the first try. In a studio-run AI shoot, creative direction, virtual model casting, brand consistency and retouching stay human work: AI is the tool, not the supplier.

What you need to start

You need the real product, photographed even very simply. Phone shots of the garment on a mannequin or laid flat are enough. You don't need professional photography to start: you need the product clearly visible, in its real colours and proportions.

Beyond the product you need brand references: palette, tone, past campaigns, the customer you speak to. These decide whether the result looks like your brand or like generic stock.

How production runs

The process runs in four stages. They are not paperwork: each removes a source of error that, in a traditional shoot, you would only discover on the shoot day.

  1. 1. Brief and strategy

We work through goals, brand language and creative direction. This stage decides whether the images will actually do a job or just look nice.

  2. 2. Send the photos

You send simple shots of the product. From there we rebuild materials, colours and proportions.

  3. 3. AI production

The creative team generates the imagery with current AI tooling, checking the product stays faithful to the original in every frame.

  4. 4. Retouching

We adjust, refine and export in the formats you need, running revisions through to the final result.

How long it takes

A standard project is delivered in 5-10 working days, revisions included. That is often just the time a traditional production needs to align the calendars of photographer, model, make-up artist and location.

What stretches the timeline is not image generation but the number of revision rounds: the sharper the initial brief, the faster the delivery.

What you can do with the images

Every image MYO produces comes with a full commercial licence. You can use it for e-commerce, social media, print, lookbooks and advertising campaigns, with no channel limits and no recurring usage fees.

This is worth checking with any supplier: many AI tools grant licences tied to an active subscription, and the images stop being usable when you stop paying.

When it makes sense and when it doesn't

An AI shoot makes sense when you need many images continuously, when the budget can't sustain recurring traditional production, when you need one collection across several settings, or when you want scenes impossible to build physically.

It doesn't make sense when the value of the campaign is the real person carrying it — a recognisable face, a founder, an actual customer. There, traditional photography isn't replaceable, and saying so is more honest than selling you the opposite.
